September 12, 2011 Journey to the Center of the Universe
DS106 launches its Fall Extravaganza with Professor Oliver Lingen-somebody (?) at the helm. I can’t wait to dive in again. I never mastered animated gifs in the summer course so I would like to give that another go around. Meanwhile in honor of DS106 Fall 2011 launch I have created this captioned photo of my father meeting his mother-in-law for the first time. I am in the process of scanning all of our old family photos. Who says old photo albums have to be boring? ComicLife (the free trial) was the program used. See my Tools page on this blog for a list of all the digital tools I used in The Summer of Oblivion (summer 2011 DS106).

I apologize that my name does make a bit of jumble at times, but love that you are excited for the start. See you all on Wednesday!

Kathy!
Hurray! I’m so glad you are going to do the DS106 thang again. We had so much fun in the summer. I look forward to what may come. I’m glad to know that I have a reliable adventurer to journey to the center of the Internet!

Yes. How could I stay away? So much more to experience, learn, practice, explore. I’m ready to take the journey. Somehow I think I already know this Lingenbrook professor. I bet you do too!

I too am fired up you are back, and I think it would be mint to use these old photos to tell an alternative history of your family, or even make them characters in the Journey to the Center of the Internet. The 50s frame is the perfect aesthetic for Michael Branson Smith’s overarching narrative.
Looking forward to it.

Added some music to set the mood!

You have to add this to the design assignment bank. I love it. Take a photo and add comic book styled talk or thought bubbles. And for extra points, add some mood music!

Good idea. I will do that. I am having trouble getting onto the DS106.us site from work. I cleared my cache. So strange. Last summer I had trouble getting on from home. A new router corrected that problem. Is the DS106 site haunted?
